This pisses me off. We are losing so many SA country pubs. Todays front page of The Advertiser talks of Hawker, Carrienton pubs all shutting down. Tough for the poor buggers, especially if they don't have the dreaded pokies to keep them going.. Who'd stand with me if I came up with a plan to do something to support regional SA pubs??? They are the life line of Country SA and need to be supported! If there's enough interest from you lot I'll try to organise something to help a few of these small iconic pubs out. Who's with me????? 🇦🇺🍺
Mari-Claire was just six weeks into her lease when the owner sold the place.
Stories like this tell us why tenants feel powerless.
Some are dealing with unfair rent rises and 'surprise' inspections. Others have to tolerate shoddy repairs, bad plumbing and faulty electrics.
Part of the problem is that the laws for tenants and landlords in this state haven't been updated for 20 years.
And we're fixing that.
We're undertaking a major review of our rental laws to bring them up to date and make them fairer, and we want your opinion on the following and more:
- Should we bring in leases for 5 years or longer for long-term tenants? - Should we ban the unreasonable 'no pets' rules in rental agreements? - Should rental increases be restricted to only one per year? - Should we introduce a mediation service for tenants and landlords? - Should notices-to-vacate have to be accompanied by evidence? - Should rental properties have to meet health and safety requirements?
We want to hear your stories.
Everything you tell us will help to shape the rental laws in this state.
Have your say on the options at www.fairersaferhousing.vic.gov.au/renting by Feburary 10.
And feel free to share some of your thoughts in the comments below, too.
Kym Bell posted a memory; "When I was a teenager I loved Choo Choo Bars. Lots of my mates at school loved them. They were a hard toffee like chewy liquorice flavoured bar that you could break up into pieces or you could just suck them from one end into a long stringy bit (I’m not sure if I could even handle one now because they were so hard and sticky but when I was a kid I loved them). I think they even stopped making them altogether for a while but they were brought back. Does anybody still eat them?
Police are reminding the community that 'If it's flooded, forget it', after a motorist was stranded in flood waters at Innisfail today. http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/farnorth/2017/01/09/what-lurks-beneath/
