Government cuts have forced the closure of the ABC's Outback Shortwave radio service. Now, if you want weather or fire warnings, you have to carry your own satellite dish! Please DONATE or JOIN ABC Friends to fight to have it restored. (cartoon kindly donated by Phil Somerville)

After the 'Meet & Greet' we decided to head home exhausted from the big day that just was, but the Bureau Of Meteorology forecast Thunderstorms from 12pm-4am. Quite often they are wrong, but not this morning…we checked the radar & sure enough a storm! So we headed to Brisbane but missed all the action as it fizzed before reaching the city.
Then about 2:45am we saw a cell fast approaching the border of NSW/QLD & headed back down south to the Gold Coast with fellow Photographer Shane Ross. We call these 'The Angry Triplets'…3 bolts in one frame (no blending). What a whirl wind 24 hours & thunder is still rumbling outside, but we are absolutely drained! Time for bed for us two. :)
We have an average of 1 in 200 people homeless in this country and yet our politicians are more worried about giving $45 million away to buy Finnish sauna’s, iPads and put paint on churches that don’t pay tax in this country.
Politicians still don’t understand the struggles of real communities. You have organisations like Meals on Wheels who are providing meals and personal contact for the aged and sick. This in turn keeps people in their own home, instead of reliant on Government funded facilities. These organisations and ones similar across Australia risk closure, due to a lack of funding as private donations taper off.
I’d like to call on all of these politicians who’ve given away tax payers money and ask them, would they pay for these items if it was coming out of their own pocket? My guess is most would say NO.
