"Much like the words ‘invasion, ‘theft’, massacres’, and ‘wars’, Australia appears uncomfortable using the word slavery in reference to its own history. But no matter what you call it, the forcing of thousands upon thousands of people to work for no money, or only for basic rations, is tantamount to slavery by any meaningful definition."

With an article titled “Why I Just Don’t Get The Whole Beatles Thing” - a 20-year-old content writer for VICE has drawn on her vast understanding of pop culture to pen a scathing piece about the English rock band.

Funny how the government has no money for things that would make an impact on say, struggling families in the drought, for the rest of their lives ....
Funny that our government is broke apparently, yet the "overnight away from home allowance" of I think around $170 per night that each politician is "entitled" (I thought the Age of Entitlement was over?) to claim if he stays in his spouses' home would pay for more than enough for farm families in the drought, feed for kids' beloved pets or livestock on drought stricken farms wouldn't it?
Funny how we don't see THEM giving up ANYTHING but further stripping the MOST vulnerable Australians of everything that further erodes their dignity .... thus denying many their basic human rights!!!
Funny how we have these greedy bastards who've clawed their way to the top usually with the help of old friends and colleagues who welcome them, create jobs and portfolios that need their "expertise", and committees with sub committees to waste yet more tax payer money.....
They eat out of the big trough, with nothing to worry about except how well their share portfolio is doing this year, and how much their super is worth.
They DON'T know what it's like to - * have to decide "if I buy washing powder and deodorant today, that's $15 that we might need for milk and bread before we get paid again;
* Stop a child joining a school excursion, camp or special event because if they pay for that, then there will be no petrol money for a week; * Not be able to let their kids do after school sport or activities; * Not send their kids to birthday parties, because they can't afford a gift; * Not buy their $12 jar of coffee because they need that $12 for their medication; * Not be able to pay rent because they HAD to buy food when their cupboards were bare; * Not be able to feed their livestock because a sick child needed to be transported 5 hours each way to hospital after a farm accident; * Have to give up their weekly bingo game at the RSL because the horrendous cost of electricity has snatched that $20 set aside for the one day of social contact they get each week; * Say sorry to their grand kids for not being able to buy them a Christmas or birthday present, because their pension doesn't even cover their basic, human needs, let alone buy gifts for those they love; * Miss out on social activities with friends and family, because even spending $15 on a day out would wreck your budget for the following week;
Yes, these and more horrible options are faced daily by so many good, honourable and worthy AUSTRALIANS whilst our self protecting politicians weave their way in and our of tax and legal loopholes every week, feathering their own nests further, and spend what we COULD BE USING to help our OWN needy citizens to bring in countless foreign nationals who do not and never will care about Australia and her people the way WE, the REAL Australians do!
Because she’s not just something to someone else, she is someone. That should be enough. For those who are sure to ask ‘what about men?’ The overwhelming majority of acts of domestic violence and sexual assault are perpetrated by men against women. Acknowledging this fact doesn’t negate the experiences of male victims, nor does it imply that all men are violent or that violence against men is ok. But it does point to the need for an approach that looks honestly at what international evidence is telling us, and addresses the gendered dynamics of violence – this is what Our Watch seeks to do. https://www.ourwatch.org.au/Understanding-Violence/Facts-and-figures
