I turned around yesterday, looked at my kid and realised my first born, the baby I had when I was just a baby, is a young woman. Fully fledged. How and when did that happen? And she's not a dickhead. She's brilliant. Obviously that last statement is a fluid one, she's 15, it changes daily. We're on holidays, everyone's in a good mood. (I did obtained the necessary written permission, in my blood, to be allowed to post this photo of her.)
I am Australian. I am an atheist. My genetic background is Irish, English, Australian Indigenous and Chinese. My niece is from the Wiradjuri people. My nephew is Lebanese Muslim. My mother is a recovering addict, who raised my sisters and I as best she could. We celebrate Christmas together, with Turducken from Woolies, prawns, pavlova and Maccas breakfast. To us, this is a cultural day in which the little family we've built comes together to eat until we each fall into a food coma. Tomorrow we will go to the beach and probably buy cheap electronics in the Boxing Day sales. How lucky we are to be able to make this holiday what we want it to be. This is our Aussie version of Christmas, and we love it.
"I adopted my son at birth knowing he had a genetic disorder. He is now 6 and non-verbal but uses sign for communication. We are fostering a beautiful deafie boxer girl (soon to be adopted!). She is amazing with my son. She is the most gentle, loving girl ever. The most BEAUTIFUL part of this adoption is my son and his dog can actually talk to each other! I highly encourage adoption of deaf dogs ... She is such a perfect addition to our family. We have been blessed with Ellie." ❤️ (Credit:Facebook/Brandi Guillet) #9Today
